Arab states do not buy products from each other
Regional, Economics, 1/20/1999
Arab economist Abdul Faltah El-Omous stated that the volume of trade between the Arab states has fallen, as have the rate of investment growth and the Arab Monetary Fund, where 50% of the financing of the fund program is still unused till now.
Meanwhile the funds' experts confirmed that they presented about 80 million dollars to activate Arab trade during the last five years.
El-Omous stated that inter-Arab trade is facing several obstacles, including the weakness of economic structures and lack of variety of products. Arab trade exports to their neighbors in 1998 amounted to 7% of their total trade exports, which is considered a very low rate when compared with the exports between European Union countries which amounts to 61%, or the exports between Asian countries which amounted to 39% during the same period.
