New party formed in Israel
Israel, Politics, 1/20/1999
Member of the Israeli Knesset for the Likud party Benny Begin has announced the formation of a new party under his chairmanship known as "Herut: the national movement." Begin's announcement was made after he officially resigned from the Likud party led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli Army radio reported that Begin will take part in the forthcoming election battle as part of the new party, as he also nominated himself for the post of prime minister as a rival for current PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli party sources said the new party, led by Begin, will announce later the consent of the Knesset to its official establishment and its being an independent party list that will join the "Tkouma" movement which the settlers established.
Begin's new party will also announce that the two new parties will head for the forthcoming Israeli election bearing the slogan ,"No to halting settlement and no to returning the Palestinian territories."
