Egyptian parks in war for entertainment revenues
Egypt, Business, 1/19/1999
Egyptian financial markets are currently witnessing intensive competition in the entertainment business represented in the establishment of five major entertainment parks opening their doors to 1.5 million visitors.
Most of these parks are established in the style of US theme parks such as Disneyland. The most prominent of these new parks is "Dream Park," on the outskirts of Cairo, comprising more than 500 games in addition to theatrical shows and water games.
The chief of the Bahgat Group's board of directors, the project's owners, Ahmed Bahgat said that the first stage was implemented over 24 months with investments of 420 million pounds.
At the same time four other entertainment parks were inaugurated in Cairo aiming at attracting the more than 50 million pounds that Egyptians spend onthis kind of entertainment each year, according to one of the feasibility studies set up by Egypt's Nahda company for cinema at the beginning of 1997.
