Meguid: Arab FM meeting expresses League position towards Iraq
Regional, Politics, 1/19/1999

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has stressed that the forthcoming consultation meeting of the Arab foreign ministers to be held in Cairo on Sunday will embody the position of the Arab League toward Iraq.

In a statement to the BBC radio, Abdul Meguid expressed his belief that a strong desire is felt by all Arab foreign ministers to take part in the meeting as well as the good intentions which call for further Arab solidarity and consultations in the current phase so as to maintain effective Arab solidarity and find a solution to rising obstacles and effective backing for lifting the sufferings of the Iraqi people.

Abdul Meguid said he made a telephone call in this context to Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa who would chair the ministerial meeting and briefed him on arrangements to convene the meeting.
