Morocco celebrates Eid Al Fitr Tuesday
Regional, Religion, 1/18/1999
Morocco celebrates on Tuesday "Eid Al Fitr" marking the end of the muslims' fasting month of Ramadan.
Several Arab countries mainly in the Gulf, the Middle East and the Maghreb are celebrating this Monday the holy Muslim feast of "Eid Al-Fitr" after completing the 30th day of Ramadan or seeing the crescent.
Muslims rely on the sighting of the crescent to decide the beginning of each lunar month. In Morocco, the crescent was not seen on Sunday night and therefore the month of Ramadan completed the 30th day.
During the holy fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating, smoking and having sex from sunrise to sunset.
The lunar year (Higri) began 1419 years ago when prophet Mohammed migrated from the city of Mekkah to Madinah, two Saudi cities.
