Kuwaiti government condemns new Iraqi claims
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 1/18/1999

The Kuwaiti government has stressed its categorical rejection and condemnation of recent Iraqi claims and measures, especially those pertaining to its retreat from recognizing the state of Kuwait and the decision on border demarcation between Kuwait and Iraq.

A statement by the Kuwaiti government released following its weekly session on Sunday, chaired by the Kuwaiti Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, said, "These repeated Iraqi statements reflect Iraq's ignorance of international legitimacy resolutions, especially UN resolution 833 concerning border demarcation. A resolution previously accepted unconditionally by Iraq through its constitutional systems."

The statement added that these Iraqi statements are flagrant violations of the UN charter. It asserted that the recent Iraqi practices reflect once again the policy ever characterized the Iraqi government, a matter which it said reveals that the "Iraqi regime's renewal of its expansionist objectives is part and parcel of its foreign policy."
