Lebanese resistance hits Israeli patrol
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 1/18/1999

Lebanese resistance forces on Sunday morning attacked the Israeli occupation forces and a pro-Israeli militia position in Mashroun in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese national resistance said direct hits were scored.

More news reports from south Lebanon said that one Lebanese resistance group on Sunday detonated an explosive charge against an Israeli patrol carrying 13 soldiers, moving in the area located between the occupation positions in al-Tebah and al-Qantara in the central sector of south Lebanon.

In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said the explosion wounded or killed four members of the patrol.

When Israeli forces tried to provide support to the Israeli exploded patrol, a second resistance group attacked the new Israeli force using machine guns and rockets.

The resistance men clashed for 20 minutes with the enemy force and caused further casualties on the Israeli side.

More reports from occupied south Lebanon said that the Lebanese resistance on Sunday attacked Israeli positions in Barachit and Rashaf. In a statement, the resistance said direct hits were achieved.

On Sunday morning Israeli occupation forces bombarded, using heavy artillery, the towns of Farroun, Ghandourieh, and al-Hajir and al-Salwqi valleys. Earlier Sunday, the Israeli occupation troops escalated their attacks on areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon and its western Bekaa.

On Saturday, Israeli warplanes raided Tallat Mleita in al-Tuffah district and the area located between Yater and al-Botoum mountain. News reports from South Lebanon said the Israeli warplanes fired air-to-surface missiles against the targeted areas.

Moreover, the Israeli artillery bombardment against residential areas in south Lebanon in Hadatha town resulted in damages to houses belonging to Lebanese citizens Hussein and Ibrahim Nasser. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli bombardment also hit al-Hamra farm, the Lebanese Army's deserted barracks and al-Nabatieh al-Fawqa, al-Zahrani river areas, woods of Kafr Tabnet, Sojoud and al-Rayhan and the outskirts of Yahmour town.

Israeli shelling hit off the courtyard of the official school in Maidoun town resulting in the suspension of teaching in classes. Furthermore, an Israeli tank in Hasbaya district bombarded the road located between Ein Qenya and Meimas.

In retaliation, Lebanese resistance forces launched a series of attacks against the Israeli occupation forces and the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia in the occupied strip of south Lebanon.

In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said its forces targeted, using mortars, rockets and machine-guns the Israeli positions and fortifications in Sujoud, Rashaf, Ali al-Taher, al-Debsheh, al-Shaqif castle, Hadatha, al-Zaffata and Ballat. Direct and precise hits were achieved on the Israeli positions, the statement said.
