Moroccan-Born Belgian Elected to Parliament

A Moroccan-born Belgian, Chokri Mahassine, has been elected member of the Belgian house of representatives beginning next February as member of the Flemish Socialist Party (SP).
Mahassine, 38, will replace a retired SP representative, Lisette Croes.
Mahassine is the son of a Moroccan couple of who settled in Belgium 33 years ago. He is the first Moroccan-born representative to sit in the Belgian House of Representatives.
