Rainfall pushes farmers to buy more seeds
Morocco, Agriculture, 1/16/1999
Following the recent rain in Morocco, the quantity of grain seed sold reached around 3,000 tons between December 18 and January 6.
The total volume of sold seeds since the beginning of the agriculture season was thus brought up to 44,800 tons, representing around 60% of the available quantities.
As farmers feared another drought season, the quantity of seeds sold decreased by 22% in comparison with the last agriculture season during which 57,600 tons of seeds were sold.
The major grains that were sold are soft wheat (30,800 tons), hard wheat (12,800 tons) and barley (1,200 ton).
