Public freedoms, audio-visual press and education to top government's action in 1999, prime minister says
Morocco, Politics, 1/15/1999
Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi said his government's action in 1999 will revolve around the consolidation of public freedom and the reform of the audiovisual and education sectors.
"We pledged to consolidate the rule of the law in our country in such a way to guarantee each one's rights and freedoms," Youssoufi said on Wednesday at a meeting with Moroccan editors-in-chief.
The government's action will be oriented towards the materialization of this objective. The legal texts governing these sectors will be updated and adapted to relevant international conventions ratified by Morocco, he said.
Touching on the audio-visual sector, Youssoufi said that his government has a plan to reform the sector and that a related draft will be submitted to the government council shortly.
The Moroccan audio-visual media, especially the state-owned TV channel TVM have been under fire and criticized for not being able to meet the Moroccan people's aspirations for free and instructive information.
