Israel held responsible for its brutal aggression against innocent civilians
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 1/15/1999

On Thursday, The April Understanding Monitoring Committee (which includes the USA and France) in charge of monitoring "the understanding that civilians should not be target of military strikes" stressed that Israel has violated items of the understanding through its strikes on Lebanese civilian populated areas in its repeated attacks against south Lebanon.

In a statement released on Thursday following the longest meeting it held since its establishment in April 1996, the committee said that the recent destruction and bulldozing of houses of civilians in Arnoun town is a violating for the Understanding. The committee called upon sides concerned to submit their concerns to it instead of carrying out works which might be harmful to civilians and their properties.

The committee also held Israel responsible for wounding two Lebanese civilians in the air raid which targeted the Lebanon's Jenta town, noting that this raid was a direct violation of the April Understanding agreement.

The Committee found that Israel's firing on the surroundings of the electricity generation station in al-Kharroub district constitutes a violation of items of the understanding. It called upon Israel to take additional measures to make sure that its attacks on south Lebanon will not be conducive to hits among the Lebanese civilians or their properties.
