Syrian people of the Golan highlight the president's nomination

The Syrian people in the occupied Golan Heights have voiced support for the decision adopted unanimously by the People's Assembly in nominating President al-Assad for a new term of office, SANA reported.

In a statement released on Thursday, the people of the Golan said, "The nomination was an expression of our will and our faithfulness to President al-Assad, the patron of progress and stability who made of Syria a fortress of Arab steadfastness against all challenges."

The masses of the Golan stressed that "al-Assad's pursued policy is an example to be followed in maintaining national unity, integration among the Baath Party, executive, legislative and people's institutions."

They voiced support for the nomination and expressed pride over the unity of the Syrians, a unity embodied in the "National Progressive Front."

Meanwhile, Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has asserted that nominating President al-Assad for a new constitutional term is a response to the ambitions of the Arab masses and interests and to the requirements of the current phase the Arab nation is witnessing.

In a special statement to SANA's correspondent in Cairo on Thursday, the Arab League chief said, "President al-Assad's wisdom and steadfast stances in defending the Arab nation and the sovereignty of the nation made of him the leader for whom the nation's masses from the Gulf to the ocean are rallied."

The AL chief continued that the " Correction Movement" President al-Assad led in 1970 " has established a solid foundation for the state's institutions and made Syria a qualified country able of deterring all challenges."

Abdul Meguid asserted that the spirit of militant struggle manifested in al-Assad destroyed the invincibility of the Israeli army in 1973, adding that such a spirit will be able to liberate every inch of the occupied Arab lands in the Golan, south Lebanon and Palestine.

He commemorated al-Assad's role in strengthening Arab solidarity and his care to strengthen the role played by the AL and revitalize the role carried out by the joint Arab activities institutions.
