Khatami's envoy leaves Baghdad
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 1/15/1999

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Muhammad Sader, the envoy of President Khatami, left Baghdad on Wednesday concluding a three-day official visit to Iraq.

The Iraqi News Agency said that Sader met on Wednesday night with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz, following a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan, who praised Iran's position in opposition to the US-British strikes against Iraq. Ramadan also expressed Baghdad's desire to normalize relations with Tehran.

Upon arriving in Baghdad on Monday, Sader met with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad Said al-Sahaf

On the other hand, on Tuesday Iran condemned Iraq's demands on the Kuwaiti territories, noting that this issue would be at the essence of Sader's talks in Baghdad. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamdi Rida Asifi said, "Such demands (by Iraq) are not the best solution to settle disputes."
