Call to celebrate january 17 as solidarity day with Iraq
Morocco, Politics, 1/14/1999

The Moroccan group of action for the support of Iraq has decided to celebrate January 17 as a national solidarity day with Iraq, MAP reported.

In a statement faxed to MAP, the group urges all the components of the civil society throughout Morocco to stage on January 17, which marks the beginning of aggression against Iraq in 1991, demonstrations of support and solidarity with Iraq and to protest the aggression against the arab-islamic country.

Several demonstrations and rallies were held in several Moroccan cities following the US-British air strikes against Iraq by mid-December.

A number of Moroccan political parties have denounced the aggression and called for lifting the unfair embargo imposed on the Iraqi people and a group of non-governmental organizations called on the Moroccan people to boycott all American and British products.
