Syria-Turkey, Politics, 1/14/1999
The Turkish daily Mellit reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Ismael Cem intends to take steps that would help improve relations between Syria and Turkey.
Upon speaking about the priorities in the Turkish foreign policy under the new government, Cem added that he predicts a detente in relations with Syria, adding that the agreement signed last year between the two countries in Adanah had paved the way before opening a new page in bilateral relations.
The paper added that Cem will exert efforts to improve relations with Germany, the current president of the European Union, and that the German foreign minister will visit Turkey in March.
