Iran reiterates support for the Palestinians
Palestine-Iran, Politics, 1/14/1999
Iran's ambassador in Damascus, Hussein Sheikh al-Islam, has stressed that the Islamic revolution in Iran gave its full support to the Palestinian revolution and considered risks which threaten the Arab and Palestinian people as a threat to Islamic security, SANA reported.
In a statement to SANA on Wednesday, the Iranian ambassador noted that the call advocated by the late Imam al-Khomeini to declare the last Friday in the holy month of Ramadan as "a day for Jerusalem" falls into this context.
He indicated that the Palestinian uprising has proven that "Israeli society is linked to a spider's web" and the "surrender" solutions sponsored by the US are doomed to failure. He voiced the support of the Iranian Shoura council for convening the Palestinian National Congress in Damascus, noting that the participation of an Iranian delegation at the conference was an assertion of Iran's solidarity with the Palestinian stand in rejection of "surrender" projects.
He asked Muslims to shoulder the responsibility of taking part in the Jihad to liberate Palestine, to provide aid and take stances in support of the Palestinians to establish their own independent state.
