Iraq and the postponement of Arab ministers meeting
Iraq, Politics, 1/14/1999
The Iraqi daily Babel (Iraqi papers reflect official views) has said that the moves to convene marginal ministerial meetings are aiming at foiling the Arab summit, asserting that the US seeks to prevent such a summit.
The paper questioned why Arab thoughts and initiatives are debated or promoted secretly instead of being discussed at a round-table. The paper in this respect indicated the Saudi initiative to alleviate sanctions imposed on Iraq.
Babel also expressed fears that the summit will be held in accordance with "US - Zoinist conditions and try to legitimize the attacks on Iraq and impose new polices and decisions on Iraq as happened at the Cairo summit of 1990."
