Tunisian cereal crop is expected to increase

A Tunisian economic source told ArabicNews.com that the fall of heavy rains this winter brings the expectations of an increase in the quantity of the Tunisian cereal crop in the coming season.
The source said that about 1.3 billion feddans of cereals were cultivated at the end of last December 98 and it is expected that this area will increase to 1.6 billions feddans at the end of this month.
In the meantime, the Tunisian cereal production is expected to amount to 1.7 million tonnes in the 1998/99 season, where Tunisian cereal production in 1997/98 amounted to 7,665 million tonnes.
