El-Bashir hopes Cairo approves his initiative
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 1/13/1999
Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir expressed his deep concern with restoring relations with Egypt.
Despite the Sudanese opposition's presence in Egypt and the Halauib triangle's issue, El-Beshir told reporters, "We hope the Egyptian government will approve my initiative calling for halting any hostile activity toward Egypt from Sudan and restoring Egyptian confiscated possessions."
Moreover he stressed the importance of cooperation and concord between Sudanese Muslims and Coptics, and urged the Coptics to act positively with Sudan's issues and to boost the state's projects.
On the other hand, a Sudanese politician announced that he is going to head today to Egypt then to Saudi Arabia carrying a message from El-Bashir to the head of Democratic Union, Mohamed Othman El-Mergany.
