Sudanese rebel force speaks of confrontation in Blue Nile province
Sudan, Politics, 1/13/1999
An opposition source told the London-based al-Hayat daily in Addis Ababa that strong confrontations took place between the forces of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army for Sudan and Sudanese governmental forces in the southern parts of the Blue Nile province in Olo and Maban districts, resulting in the death of 96 members of the armed forces.
The source stated that the government's forces exploited the climatic condition when there is not rain and tried as of January 10 to seize Olo and Maban districts but the SPLA confronted the attack launched by the government on two fronts.
