Former members of al-Jihad and al-Gamaa groups seek to establish Egyptian party
Egypt, Politics, 1/13/1999
Former members in the banned al-Jihad and Islamic Group (al-Gamaa) armed groups in Egypt announced their determination to establish a new political party.
One of the would-be party's cofounders and a former member of the al-Jihad party said in a statement in Cairo on Tuesday, "We have decided to establish the party because we believe in the idea of political struggle, through available means but without resorting to violence."
He added, "Most of the young men in the Islamic movement are inclined towards a new thinking which is based on giving up violence."
