UNESCO Donates Moroccan Association $ 25,000
Morocco, Culture, 1/12/1999
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has donated the Moroccan association "Bayti" $25,000 to support the association's actions to benefit homeless children.
According to the Unesco's publication "Sources," the donation will help the association spread its homeless child-oriented projects to several Moroccan cities. The publication cites the association's actions as an example of social, family and professional integration of homeless children.
"Bayti" opened in May 1995 an orphanage for homeless children in Casablanca.
The publication reported how the association offers children a center in which they can sleep and grow up in a warm family atmosphere. They are supervised by a team of 25 persons including teachers, social workers and pediatricians.
"Sources" also noted that the association's priorities are to ensure family, school and professional integration of homeless children. Its program includes explanation sessions on the damages caused by alcohol and drugs as well as literacy and vocational training courses entitling these children to find a job.
The Moroccan association is supported by French humanitarian association "Terre des Hommes," the French embassy in Morocco, "Air France" foundation and UNESCO.
