Lebanese president stresses efforts to return the displaced
Lebanon, Politics, 1/12/1999
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has stressed that he will spare no efforts to bring back the Lebanese displaced people from the occupied parts of south Lebanon to their villages and houses.
During his meeting on Monday in Beirut with a number of Lebanese Parliamentarians, President Lahoud highlighted the importance of bringing back the displaced Lebanese people as soon as possible, "because this will assure the people who stand firm in their land that the state stands beside them in confrontation of the Israeli occupation."
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss stressed Lebanon's adherence to peace. In a speech he delivered at the opening ceremony of a sports and science center in Beirut, he expressed the hope that by its unity of tracks with Syria, Lebanon would reach a just and comprehensive solution.
Al-Hoss added that Lebanon cannot accept the logic of a double-standard policy for the region's destiny and problems. "At the same time, thousands of Lebanese families are still forced to stay away from their homes and other families have to pay a high price for the continued Israeli attacks, while other UN Security Council resolutions are applied strictly on other states in the region and wars are launched for the sake of applying these resolutions."
Hoss stated that the US is the sole power that can prevent Israel from attacking the infrastructure of Lebanon.
