Kuwait, Politics, 1/12/1999

Well informed sources in Kuwait told the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas on Monday that the Kuwaiti Ministry of the Interior had withdrawn the passport of Kuwaiti journalist Hamed Bu Yabes and that the Journalist is to be investigated at the public court after the Kuwaiti Cabinet submitted his case to the Ministry of the Interior.

Members of the Kuwaiti Ummah council (parliament) who denounced the visit Bu Yabes made to Israel, asked the Kuwaiti government to call Yabes for trial and to prevent him from attending the Parliament's session in his capacity as a journalist.

The Kuwaiti Journalists Union had denounced Bu Yabes' visit and stressed that his "behavior is personal and the Kuwaiti journalists union has no relation with this visit."
