Moroccan NGOs call for boycotting U.S., British products and missions
Morocco, Politics, 1/11/1999

A group of Moroccan non-governmental organizations on Saturday called on the Moroccan people to boycott all American and British products and missions.

The NGOs also urged, during a press conference in Rabat, the Moroccan government to unilaterally lift the embargo imposed on Iraq since 1991.

The NGOs group gathers some 35 associations, including the Moroccan association of support to Iraq, the Union of Morocco's writers, the national press union and the Moroccan human rights association.

The group also called for closing down the Israeli liaison office in Rabat "because of the intrinsic link between the plots weaved against Palestine and the strikes against Iraq."

The USA and Britain launched last December intensive air strikes against Iraq, under the pretext of "Iraq's refusal to cooperate fully" with UNSCOM, United Nations mission in charge of dismantling Iraqi mass destruction weapons.

It also requested the Moroccan government to "convoke, if necessary, the Moroccan ambassadors in Washington and London."

The group further proclaimed January 17 a solidarity day with Iraq, as it coincides with the anniversary of the US-led aggression against Iraq in 1991.
