Egypt insists on Israeli nuclear disarmament
Egypt, Politics, 1/8/1999

Once again, Egypt renewed its insistence on inserting the issue of "removing the nuclear weapons" on the agenda of the negotiation priorities during the meeting of the disarmament conference which is to be held in the current month at Geneva.

The United Nation's permanent deputy from Egypt in Geneva, ambassador Monir Zahran, said, "Egypt strongly believes that all attempts to play with the principles of non-proliferation, will lead to very grave danger that threatens humanity with extinction." He also spoke of double standards in this regard.

Zahran emphasized Egypt's insistence on universalizing the non-proliferation treaty, adding that if Israel refuses to join the treaty, this will threaten the security situation of the region.
