Song: memories of a very special globe trotter

Driss Kadiri, a young handicapped man who toured Europe, the Arab world and Asia by his bicycle has just published "Song," a mixture of journal and essay.

His book tells the story of a young disabled person born in a poor family in eastern Morocco. He also gives some thoughts on this very special world tour.

Driss Kadiri was born with clubfoot and underwent several surgical operations. Kadiri also relates how he started to think of making a world tour as a challenge that he needed to fulfill.

"We have here a gracious mixture of reality as it was lived and of an aspiration which in the process of becoming true gives birth to a beautiful dream. Kadiri is good reporter full of humanism and delicacy, but not failing to vigorously protect injustice whatever its origin is," said Mahdi ElMandjra who prefaced the book.

There is in his writing style a combination of pain, hope and pride. The pride of a victory that consolidates dignity and privileges self-reliance because the author wanted first of all to rely on himself, the preface said.
