Yemen refuses to join British commonwealth
Yemen-UK, Politics, 1/7/1999
A Yemeni diplomatic spokesman in Cairo confirmed today that his country does not need to join the British commonwealth, replying to the statement made by a British official against nominating Yemen to join the commonwealth.
Moreover, the source said that his country does not desire to take the initiative of asking for membership in this alliance because former British Foreign Minister Malcolm Rifkind was the one who presented the request and tried to press Sanaa's government to join this alliance.
