Egypt officially joins COMESA

Egypt, yesterday joined the COMESA, the economic organization of east, west and central African countries, to be the twentieth member state, after the ratification by the people's assembly yesterday of the agreement to join the COMESA group.
The member countries of the group are seeking the abolish customs duties on goods exchanged between them in October 2000.
Meanwhile Egyptian governmental sources told ArabicNews.com that the Egyptian treasury will not carry the burden of customs reductions on Egypt's imports from the COMESA countries, which do not exceed 29 million pounds.
