Kuwait consults with Saudi Arabia on Arab summit
Kuwait, Politics, 1/6/1999

Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah has asserted that his country does not oppose the convening of an Arab summit as long as such a summit is prepared for very well.

He added that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia share identical positions concerning the summit and that consultations continue "with our brothers in Saudi Arabia for this purpose."

In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Riyadh published on Tuesday, Sheikh al-Sabah indicated that, "Kuwait is with the Arab consensus which aims at servicing Arab interests." He added that Kuwait's people and government will never be for "Arab partitioning and weakness."

He went on that Kuwait does not at all seek to damage Iraq and that it suffers a lot from what the Iraqi people have been suffering as a result of the sanctions.
