Khatami stresses cooperation with Arab Gulf states

Iranian President Muhammad Khatami has asserted the need of cooperation among countries overlooking the Gulf region in order to achieve security and stability in this "sensitive part of the world."

During his meeting with Kuwait's new ambassador in Tehran, Suleiman Ali al-Saeed, who submitted his credentials to the Iranian president, President Khatami added that certain problems and disputes between countries of the region can be dealt with through dialogue and understanding.

President Khatami stressed Iran's desire to develop its relations with the state of Kuwait in all fields. Khatami added: "We, the same as we condemned the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, today we condemn the US - British aggression against Iraq and we call for the implementation of the UN resolutions in order to achieve security and stability in the region."

For his part, the Kuwaiti ambassador stressed his country's desire to develop its relations with Iran in all domains.
