Morocco's car sales up 10 percent in 1998

Morocco's car sales increased in 1998 by 10 % to 54,938 units against 49,897 vehicles sold in 1997, the Moroccan car-makers' federation said in its latest release.
The locally built Fiat cars still dominate the Moroccan market thanks to the launching of the new Palio and Sienna models posting a 39.6 % sales increase. Peugeot cars came in the 2nd place (" 18 %) advancing Renault ("11.4 %).
The Moroccan car sector counts 120 enterprises employing 8,000 persons and posting an annual turnover of $ 618 million.
Morocco, which has a 28-Million population, counts currently over 1.3 Mln cars.
