Syria, Economics, 1/4/1999

Syrian Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Nadeem Akkash and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization in Damascus (FAO), Mustafa Sinasser, on Saturday signed an agreement on holding training courses in the area of food testing laboratories.

The agreement provides for upgrading the capacity of laboratories in Syria by making the best use of technological equipment in the ministry and boosting cooperation with other ministries concerned.

The agreement also provides for research on foodstuff components, for maintaining quality control and for giving the best service for the country's private and public sector factories.

The agreement is due to last for 15 months, during which technical assistance will be given by the FAO and programs will be drawn up.
