Morocco's former resistance members condemn US-British strikes against Iraq
Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 1/2/1999
The Former Members of Morocco's Resistance and Liberation Army have strongly condemned the US-British Strikes against Iraq and called Arab and Islamic countries to act for the lifting of the unfair embargo imposed on Iraqi people.
"The US-British military campaign targets civilians and undermine the Arab and Muslims' feelings during the holy fasting month of Ramadan," the former Moroccan resisters said in a communique released Thursday after a meeting here of their national council.
They also expressed solidarity with the Iraqi People and urged the Arab-Muslim countries as well as the international community to stand up with Iraqi people to end the US-British aggression which violates international law and principles.
Morocco had expressed "great concern" over U.S.-British military raids against Iraq and called for restraint and for giving a chance to international peaceful mediation.
The Moroccan political class also criticized the attacks, saying they were launched in a bid to divert attention of the American people and International community from the sex scandal and impeachment vote that were raging in the USA.
Several popular marches and rallies were staged in various Moroccan cities to express support with the Iraqi people and denounce the raids as a blatant violation of international laws and conventions.
For their parts, Arab MPs condemned the U.S-British missile raids, saying they jeopardized regional peace and worsened the hardships of Iraqi people.
