Iraqi ambassador accuses US of annihilating his people
Iraq, Politics, 1/2/1999

The Iraqi permanent deputy at the Arab League, Sultan El-Shawi, stated that what the United States and Britain have done to Iraq is organized annihilation and not random.

Following his meeting with AL Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid, El-Shawi said that allied forces used uranium, which is a weapons of mass destruction whose traces last for up to 300-500 years. He said that Iraq will be totally annihilated.

El-Shawi also added that the outcomes of the economic sanctions till now are the deaths of 1.5 million children, as every six minutes an Iraqi child dies, and in Baghdad alone 50 children die daily and 7,500 die monthly, calling this a collective annihilation.

He called on the Arab states to lift the sanctions from Iraq and ask for compensation for damages caused by the recent US - British attacks.
