Polisario denies a substitute plan replacing the referendum
Morocco, Politics, 12/30/1998

Sources of the Polisario front have denied the existence of a substitute plan replacing the organizing of the referendum in the Western Sahara.

The sources stressed that the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan did not submit any such proposals during his recent visit to the region, noting approval of the proposals pertaining to preparations for the referendum.

Meantime, Moroccan official sources said that the idea of dividing the Sahara and establishing a " Sahara entity" outside the security wall is " mere illusions." It stressed its adherence to the implementation of the co-operation and settlement plan with the UN and asserted the need of explaining certain pending issues, especially resuming operations of " defining identities" and not to publish lists of registered persons only after the end of the registering process.
