Group of illegal immigrants arrested in Spain
Morocco-Algeria-Spain, Local, 12/29/1998
Eleven north Africans trying to enter Europe illegally were arrested in the port of the southern Spanish town of Algesiras, the Spanish news agency EFE reported.
The illegal immigrants -- six Moroccans and five Algerians -- were arrested while they were trying to sneak without documents into the Spanish territory.
Three smugglers were also arrested during the operation.
Waves of Moroccan and North African candidates for illegal immigration are arrested while they are on their way to enter Spain via the Straits of Gibraltar on board small makeshift boats, locally known as "pateras."
