Atlass alliance calls countries and Israel for consultations in Spain
Regional, Politics, 12/29/1998

Egyptian sources said that the El-Atlas alliance decided to call representatives of Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Mauritania, Egypt and Israel for convening consultations on the level of ambassadors in Valencia - Spain during February.

The sources said that the meetings come in preparation for the Atlass summit to be held in Washington during April to celebrate 50 years of the alliance.

The sources added that the alliance states' foreign ministers decided in their recent meeting in Brussels to hold consultations with their new partners in the alliance and the possible participants to prepare for the Washington summit.

The consultations with the five Arab states and Israel come in the framework of upgrading the tasks of the alliance and reexamining its policy and plans, which the coming summit is to specify.

The alliance held talks with Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania in 1994, and Algeria refused to take part.
