Jordan prevents a meeting for Iraq's Sadoun Hammadi
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 12/29/1998
The Jordanian government prevented a meeting scheduled for Monday night for the speaker of the Iraqi national council Sadoun Hammadi and members of his accompanying delegation with the representatives of Jordanian vocational trade unions.
The governor of Amman said the decision providing for canceling the meeting with the chairman of the vocational trade unions, Hussein Jaber.
Meanwhile, Jordanian security officials came to the union's headquarters and asked the union not to convene the meeting, whereas the police were cordoning it.
Contacts made by certain heads of vocational trade unions with Jordanian Minister of the Interior Abdul Ellah al-Khatib did not result in a positive response, as al-Khatib stressed Jordan's official position in preventing the meeting.
