Four Syrians killed in Lebanon building collapse
Lebanon-Syria, Local, 12/28/1998
Four Syrians were killed and one Lebanese was wounded on Saturday night in a building collapse in al-Sharaani suburb in the al-Qubbeh area of Tripoli.
The persons killed are Muhammad Hamid Arnous, Muhammad Ali Tamer, Hamad Muhammad and Nadim Suleiman. The wounded Lebanese man has been treated in a hospital in Tripoli and his condition is stable.
Upon hearing the news, Lebanese President Emil Lahoud asked for the formation of a ministerial investigation committee from the ministries of the interior and the public works to find the reasons behind the building's collapse.
The governor of North Lebanon, Khalil Hindi, and Tripoli municipality chairman Samir Sharaani said the building was illegally inhabited because of the cracks that resulted from battles northern Lebanon witnessed during the 1980s.
