Israel continues attacks on Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 12/28/1998

Caution and tensions have prevailed in southern Lebanese areas with continued intensive sorties at low altitude by Israeli war planes over south Lebanon areas.

Lebanese security sources said Israeli occupation artillery bombarded on Sunday towns in the al-Tuffah district.

Meanwhile, Lebanese resistance forces on Sunday attacked three Israeli occupation positions inside south Lebanon. Lebanese resistance sources said one of its groups attacked at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday Sujoud position, using machine-guns and rockets from nearby and various directions. The position's western fortifications were destroyed.

Simultaneously, another Lebanese national resistance group attacked the occupation position in Kassaret al-Aroush. In a statement, the resistance said the attacks scored direct hits in the positions.

The Lebanese sources added that one of the resistance groups attacked on Saturday night the occupation forces' positions in Tallat Sujoud. Direct hits were scored.

Moreover, and in retaliation for the Israeli attacks on a number of villages in the western Bekaa of south Lebanon on Sunday, Lebanese security sources said the resistance men intensively shelled an Israeli position in Belat with rockets and mortars. Further reports said that news from the occupied part of south Lebanon said officers and elements from pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia whose loyalty to the Israelis is under suspicion have been disarmed by Israeli troops.

On Saturday, the Israeli occupation troops attacked, using heavy artillery the outskirts of Kafer Roumman town, the deserted Lebanese army barracks in Nabatieh and the surroundings of the troops' positions in Beaufort and Debshe areas. Lebanese security sources said the bombardment was in conjunction with machine guns and sniper shots fired by Israeli forces.

The Lebanese sources added that the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army advanced troops to Shabaa town inside the occupied part of south Lebanon and imposed a curfew. The SLA militias carried out mopping up operations under the pretext that they want to arrest those who killed Ghassan Dhaher, a SLA officer who was killed on Friday.

The Lebanese security sources added that another SLA official, Muhammad Nabaa has been missing in uncertain circumstances since Friday evening.
