Escalated Israeli aggressions, threats against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 12/26/1998
While the Israeli occupation forces continued their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied parts of south Lebanon and its artillery pounded the areas located between al-Sawannah and Toulin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government escalated its threats against Lebanon and the Lebanese resistance.
In retaliation, Lebanese resistance forces attacked a position held by Israeli occupation troops and allied militia forces in al-Tebah. Direct hits were scored.
Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery targeted al-Salawqi and al-Aisheyeh valleys, and the bombardment coincided with vast mopping-up operations.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes continued flights in Lebanese airspace, especially in the al-Nabatieh and al-Tuffah districts of south Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Army's chief of staff, Gen. Saul Mufaz, threatened to continue the attacks against Lebanon and its national resistance. He claimed in statements he made on Wednesday that the bombardment of the Israeli warplanes of a Lebanese house in the Western Bekaa where a mother and her six children were massacred was just "a mistake."
On Thursday, the Israeli prime minister and his defense minister, Yitzhak Mordechai, threatened to continue attacks against the Lebanese territories, and Israeli Minister of Internal Security Avigdor Kahalani also threatened to bombard and destroy the Lebanese infrastructure.
