Morocco to hold national colloquy on solid waste management
Morocco, Environment, 12/24/1998

Moroccan Secretary of State for Environment Ahmed Iraqui announced that Morocco will organize next February a national colloquy on solid waste management to draw up a national strategy and an efficient basis for the enforcement of a new law.

In an interview with the Moroccan daily "Al Mithaq Al Watani," the official said the encounter will examine recommendations made by four workshops. He added that the Moroccan environment policy seeks to adopt new environment-protection laws, citing in this regard the existence of laws on waste, sea coasts, and shores in addition to a decree on exhaust gas which will be enforced soon.

He added that the air pollution rate has increased in view of aging vehicles, as 85% of cars are more than 10 years old and pollute 5 to 10 times more than new cars.
