Emergency measures taken by US embassy in Bahrain
Bahrain-USA, Local, 12/23/1998

The US embassy in Bahrain announced on Tuesday it is in a state of alert and emergency after it received a false warning that there was a bomb planted in the embassy, which required evacuation of the embassy's headquarters on Sunday.

The spokesman for the embassy said, "We have taken all protective measures to ensure the security of our employees after we received a telephone call from an unidentified person to the embassy stressing that there was a bomb in the building, but inspection operations after the evacuation of the embassy revealed nothing."

US embassies in the Gulf had warned American citizens and military personnel working at the general headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain not to gather in clubs or cafes because of the possibility that US interests could undergo attacks following the attacks against Iraq.
