Vigilance diminishes in Ramadan, Moroccan study reveals
Morocco, Economics, 12/22/1998
Muslims fasting during the month of Ramadan see their vigilance diminish, especially at 9 A.M. and 4 P.M.
A study, conducted by the Hassan II Foundation of Scientific and Medical Research on Ramadan, shows that humans cannot develop any adaptation during the four fasting weeks, as performance worsens towards the end of the holy month.
The fall in physical and intellectual performance is widely attributed to the decrease in sleeping hours, as people tend to feast at night after a long fasting day.
The Foundation advises people whose jobs require vigilance, like drivers, not to alter their sleeping rhythm.
