Moroccan representatives call for extraordinary Arab summit

The Moroccan House of Representatives (lower chamber of the parliament) called Monday for an extraordinary Arab summit to adopt a unified position on the anti-Iraq aggression and embargo.

After it praised the king's decision to set up a crisis cell to follow developments of the situation, the house which held an extraordinary session in solidarity with the Iraqi people called the government to take all measures and initiatives to boost Arab solidarity and lift the eight-year embargo enforced against Iraq.

The representatives, who observed a minute of silence in the memory of the US-British raids victims, also condemned these attacks as "a blatant violation of international legality and human rights principles" and expressed their support to the Iraqi people in this hardship. The Moroccan MPs argued that the reasons given to justify the aggression are "only opening the way for the law of the strongest and state terrorism."

The Chamber of Advisors (the upper house of the parliament) also decided to hold this Tuesday a plenary session to support the Iraqi people.

Meanwhile, the Arab Parliamentary Union called on Arab states to adopt a unified stance on the aggressions that targeted Iraq. The union urged all the world legislators to support Iraq and denounce the US-British military operations.

For the Union, the "British-American aggression is seeking to partition Iraq and change the regime through external interference."
