Free fast-breaking meals offered to needy people
Morocco, Culture, 12/21/1998

Free fast-breaking meals were distributed Sunday to needy people throughout the Kingdom on the occasion of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The move is part of a nation-wide solidarity campaign to provide nearly one million free meals and assistance to the needy persons during the fasting month of Ramadan.

Moroccan Soccer stars, Mustafa Haji and Smahi Triki, will also launch during this fasting month a solidarity fund-raising campaign in favor of the orphans.

About $ 9 millions were raised in the week-long national solidarity week held in Morocco last October for the struggle against poverty.

The week featured several artistic, cultural and musical fund-raising shows whose proceeds were used for the rehabilitation of charity houses and for the improvement of their services and performances.

Among the Moroccan 28 million-strong population, there are nearly 3 million poor persons.
