Khatami expresses satisfaction over Iran's relations with Gulf states
Gulf-Iran, Politics, 12/17/1998

Iranian President Muhammad Khatami has expressed satisfaction over his country's improving relations with the Arab Gulf states.

The Iranian official news agency quoted President Khatami as saying during his meeting in Tehran on Wednesday with chairman of the Kuwaiti nation council Ahmad al-Sadoun "We witness today a climate of confidence and the good will and cooperation between the Gulf region countries."

He added that such an atmosphere had not been in existence during the two past decades, which witnessed "two destructive wars" in reference to the Iraqi - Iranian war and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

Khatami added, "We want peace and stability to the region and we think these cannot be attained without cooperation among regional countries."
