Egypt, Politics, 12/16/1998
Egyptian opposition forces and parties announced the formation of a front for political and democratic reform that aims at expanding general liberties, while 13 human rights organizations issued a statement in which they urged the parties and civil organizations to demand the stoppage of all provocative procedures against human rights movements in the country.
The statement urged regional and international organizations to reply to the Egyptian government's message, which undermines the movemnts' principles.
The statement directed severe criticism at the Egyptian government, which said that it has decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its own way and directed a message to the public denial of its international commitments to respect human rights.
