Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid welcomed yesterday the visit of US Presidnet Bill Clinton to the region, calling it a chance to rescue the peace process and face Israeli obstinacy, as well as a chance for the U.S. to prove its credibility in the peace process. Also, Egypt expressed optimism toward the success of Clinton's visit to Israel and the Palestinian National Authority's self-rule areas because it represents a chance to achieve progress in the peace process, while Damascus said it believes the visit did not achieve tangible progress, except presenting more Arab concessions. Bosnian president Alija Izetbegovic, left Monday Morocco after a brief visit to the Kingdom during which he was received by King Hassan II. Before departure, the Bosnian premier, Haris Siladjzic, told reporters that President Alija Izetbegovic had expressed to King Hassan II his deep gratitude to Morocco for its backing to the cause of the Bosnian people.The Bosnian president and his accompanying delegation arrived sunday in Morocco on their way to Spain to attend an International peace conference on Bosnia-Hercegovina.The conference, to open works this Tuesday, will be attended by delegates from the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). US Secretary of state Madeleine Albright is arriving today to the Jordanian capital 'Amman' in an official few-hours visit during which she will meet Jordanian crown prince Hassan. US Secretary of Commerce William Daley announced yesterday that a Coca Cola distributing plant will open in conjunction with the Gaza Industrial Estate, adding that Coca Cola has invested $400 million in the Middle East and North Africa over the last five years and employs 100 people in Ramallah. The goal of the Gaza Industrial Estate is to eventually provide 20,000 jobs, the text of Daley's prepared statement said. Go

The Libyan TV has said that leader of the Russian Communist Party Genady Zughanov arrived on Sunday in Libya from Tunisia in a visit which will last for several days.In an arrival statement, the Russian official said thathis visit aims at developing relations between his Party and Libya. He called for lifting the UN sanctions imposed on this country. Before he arrived in Libya, Zughanov was in a " work visit "for Tunisia which lasted for three days. Go

The Moroccan government has expressed its total support for Lebanon. In a cable of congratulations he sent on Monday to Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss, Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi expressed the determination of the Moroccan government to support fraternal relations between the two "brotherly Lebanese and Moroccan peoples and their desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields." Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on Monday in al-Yamamah palace in Riyadh met with a delegation from the French National Society chaired by Herve De Charette, who was also France's Foreign Minister and the chairman of the French-Saudi French Society.De Charette left Saudi Arabia later in the day following a three-day official visit. Algerian security forces killed one extremist gunman and another person accompanying him on Saturday in Mashisha village in Bu Mardas province. The Algerian daily al-Khabar said that one citizen was killed on Sunday when a bomb was exploded in the cattle market in al-Aghwat province. Al-Alam al-Seyasi paper said that two persons were killed while guarding cultivated lands in Tebaza province. The paper added that the security forces found the body of a girl who was kidnapped from a village in Sedi Rashid province. Go

President of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani on Monday received a communique from Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir concerning to coordination and cooperation relations between the two countries.The Gulf News Agency reported that Sudanese Minister for Cabinet Affairs Muhammad al-Amin Khaleifa delivered the message during his meeting with Sheikh Hamad on Monday in Doha.
